What’s Behind Desire?

Idols surround me as gods all around me are tempting me to town
Lately, they’re crownless as I have been doubting that there’s a broad way out

I’m surprised if anything is right in this wicked world, it’s a wicked place

Satan’s against me and God is my friend but I seldom get my way
Life’s full of pleasures but people with treasures are getting me enslaved

I’m surprised if anything is right in this wicked world, it’s a wicked place

He’s got a friendly-looking face, she’s got one

But the desires of this life are like signs
what’s behind some of them are on my mind

I have been weakened and I wander meekly near fires far and wide
While friends are sleeping and they’re busy dreaming desires fill our minds

I’m surprised if anything is right in this wicked world, it’s a wicked place

With a friendly-enough face, it’s a treacherous place

But the desires of this life are like signs
what’s behind some of them are on my mind
Desires, sweet Jesus, I like mine

On this narrow path not a soul goes back
I’m sorry for this world…My desire…
What we’ve done in it…What’s behind it?
