Happy Thanksgiving on the road
Happy Thanksgiving from New Jersey
Happy Thanksgiving in the home
Oh, Happy Thanksgiving in all lands
So, remember to have an open mind
and hold your fork and knife
with trembling fingers and careful hands
I’m so busy, my head’s spinning
with the things that I have to do
Though I’m busy I still win though
I must be with them and with you
But I know of the code
And I’ll live on the highway
All have to work with the people we’re with
When we all talk with such people we win
The road’s precarious that we must take
the highway’s there for us and we must take it
The road is arduous, so hard and rough
The highway’s strenuous but we must take it
The going’s vigorous but we’re made tough
The skyway’s treacherous but love’s a labor
A work of love…and just like kings in exile
We are thankful for our trials
when it’s cold outside in the storm
We are thankful soldiers fighting
and can hide inside where it’s warm
if we keep on the road
If we stick to the highway
All have to go to these places we go
None have to go to these places alone
Just like the kings who have had to leave thrones
The road is arduous, so hard and rough
The highway’s strenuous but we must take it
The going’s vigorous but we’re made tough
The skyway’s treacherous but love’s a labor
A work of love…and just like kings in exile
It’s not a march but stop and go
It’s more a watch for who you know
There’s temptation to be evil
based on what we know, where we’ve been
There’s temptation from most people
based on who, you know, let you in
As one carries our load
we all win on the highway
All have to go to bad places to learn
We have to go to these places to work
We’re earning our keep
All the servants earn their keep
The road is arduous, so hard and rough
The highway’s strenuous but we must take it
The going’s vigorous but we’re made tough
The skyway’s treacherous but love’s a labor
A work of love…and just like kings in exile
We all will learn these lessons
“Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: but one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:38-42)
“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” (Matthew 5:13)
