Home for Thanksgiving

Thursday, we celebrate with thanks
We’re giving love, not taking it
not exchanging it but giving of
precious thankfulness
And with thankfulness, which is hard to give
this Thanksgiving, we’ll be visiting home

Autumn is warmed by all our thanks
We celebrate with gratefulness
God, for saving us, with currency
which is thankfulness
Since, with thankfulness, which is ours to give
this Thanksgiving, we’ll be visiting home

So, when we go back home
the place where things will last
the place that has some past
but mostly the present
and an endless future
More than knick-knacks and trivialities
forgiveness
and perfect: we’re first, not last
not second, or third – important

Friends and our family give thanks
We’re giving love with gracefulness
From the bank we get our currency:
lent by thankfulness
And with thankfulness, which is ours to give
this Thanksgiving, we’ll be visiting home

And when we go back home
our friend since long ago
accepted and made whole
we rest our weary souls

Happy Thanksgiving!
