I always get upset when I park my car at the store because the parking lot is on a steep incline with a river at the bottom and I think my car is going to roll down into the river. Because when I get out of the store the car is still there…

I have an old car that I don’t like but it’s the perfect car for me.

This is a story about being trapped in a strange relationship – and accepting it.

On July 2, 2020, I got into a car accident.

“Oh, what a beautiful buck,” I thought, “Better go slow…”

I couldn’t go slow enough. At the last second, the deer jumped right in front of me.

It’s too sad to tell the rest of the story.

Later, I thought, God had that deer sacrifice his life to help me buy a new car so I wouldn’t be proud that I bought one myself.

God and I have the strange relationship I spoke of earlier and I need to learn my proper place in it.

God hates our pride.

Why does God hate our pride?

And some might say that we shouldn’t hate and that God doesn’t hate.

Read the Bible to see that God hates. And God’s people, such as Israel’s great king, David, hated.

God wants us to hate sin. God wants us to hate our material things. God wants us to hate our careers. God wants us to hate our idols. God wants us to hate our lives down here. God wants us to only love him, a friend of mine told me. God’s got to be number one in our lives. And he will be.

Getting back to the buck, the deer sacrificed his life, like God the Father’s Son, Jesus, so God could provide the money for my old car, so I wouldn’t be proud of myself for selling it and providing for myself. That way I would learn that God provides all for me and I will learn to trust him for everything.

God and I have a strange relationship but it’s not unusual for his True Believers. I’m thankful to God and my friends to have learned that.

Please forgive me but I’m hastily getting this post published now. But it’s just as well because we cannot have pride in a perfect or entertaining article. We will have pride only in God.
