Thanksgiving Leftovers

A coworker invited me over for food
we know that it’s the right thing to do
I’d like to go but not for the food
Relationships are what I pursue
The baker invites the prophet
his house is the highway road
Obeying is my daily bread
and it is the way I go

This is just a step along the way
It is where we need to be, today

It’s nice to be invited

I’m mulling all this over, the thing is brand-new
not dull but sharp’s the mind that I’ll use
Dimensions by the power of two
we’ll bake the thing up as bakers do
A cake that is made by loving
his kitchen’s the narrow road
Ingredients and all the steps
and it is the ship that floats

This is just a step along the way
It is where we need to be, today

I see signs we’ll be together, again
You and I will live forever, my friend
See my eyes for your reflection

We’re going with the flow like creatives all do
Although his art will soon be consumed
He’ll trade his work and I’ll bargain, too
We’ll make ourselves available, new
and, bravely, we’ll take what’s coming
The world is for us, we’re told
Like yeast rising in some bread
our new will replace the old

This is just a step along the way
It is where we need to be, today

We’re nearing the place
though fearing his face

I see signs we’ll be together, again
You and I will live forever, my friend
See my eyes for your reflection
