The Bridge

The holidays are over now
the time that I am always down
but gone’s the world as it once was
the guys at work I miss so much

Responsive in the face of hate
of rock-hard hearted folks who take
and take and take yet have no shame
we’re patient when they pin some blame

Love is the bridge that we all take
Yet
delusions every place we turn
and soon we see a bridge we’ve burned
What seemed so right was just a dream
the dream where most don’t hear you scream

The road has highs and lows, my friend
but we are going to the end
With treachery on every side
there’s one good place where we can hide

Love is the bridge that we may ride

Jesus is this bridge
He is the real love hero

The earth is cursed but we forget
The words of God reveal this yet
we travel roads to their dead ends
But after that we meet our friend

The time we read the words of God
is worship from our worked-on hearts
a sign that Jesus has begun
the work of love we need so much

Love is the bridge that’s leading us

Jesus is this bridge
He is the real love hero

The bridge…

Over the lowlands
far in our car we’re
starry-eyed wanderers
on, to God’s harbor

Love is the bridge, to God, we go

Jesus is this bridge
He is the real love hero
