We’re all in this place
the Hall of God’s waste
The warden eats cake
I’ve water in chains
We’re cynical here
in prison and stuck
Our home’s full of fear
with nowhere to run
Merry Christmas in this prison
Happy New Year, too
it’ll be the same then
There’s blood on the floor
And blood on the walls
They can’t get it off
And blood on the door
Some walk in the yard
I’m shackled in chains
Some lie in the sun
I labor in rain
With three square meals a day
this life is like a prison
Like having to run a marathon on one leg’s
the road to redemption
Alone in my cell
I see little peace
The ghosts in this Hell
bring me to my knees
And here, in this house
where all’s turned around
they hold inmates up
and beat free men down
Parole? What a joke! there’s no place to go
Love your prison
Will it ever get any better than this?
Ask the Warden
The road to redemption’s a hard one
‘Cause no one will hear
all strayed from the path
You get some good things
but not what you’ve asked
I don’t get the love
some choke on too much
And pay comes their way
for most, not enough
Love? No! Respect? No! Romance? No way!
Hope? Little, if any…Not for me, anyway
Criminals are in charge most of the time
It’s a miserable existence
Merry Christmas!
I have a sick sense of humor
And at Christmas!
With Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus
the Bible says, “all those in Jerusalem
eagerly expecting redemption.”
The road to redemption’s a hard one but
our only good Friend is on it
Bible quote is from Luke 2:38 (KJ3)
