You’re By My Side

I’ve been busy
Up to my eyes with things
I’ve been stressing
All of the time these days

This land’s a land of pride
with people turned aside
I wish I could take flight
with wings right through the night

It’s been snowing
I like to play outside
But rough-going
better to stay inside

A dream where you just slide
where there’s no place to hide

Then! Something that’s new!
And! What a surprise!
It’s Christmastime
and you’ve been by my side

Wish for Christmas:
I’d be where it’s real warm
But this Christmas
I’m lucky if I’m paid

I best accept my trials
these tests are facts of life

In this country
if you’re not a scared rabbit
or a deer in headlights
or a lying snake
or a tired horse
or a wild goat
you’re a quiet lamb

And there’s a Giant Lion

So merry Christmas!

And happy birthday, Jesus!

The farmer’s fields are dry
with famine of the guy

But it’s Christmastime
and you’re by my side

Merry Christmas!
